Ingredients
– 1 cup white sugar
– 1/2 cup butter
– 1 cup unsweetened applesauce
– 2 cups all-purpose flour
– 1 teaspoon baking soda
– 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
– 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
– 1/2 cup chopped walnuts (optional)
– 1/2 cup raisins (optional)
– A pinch of salt
Instructions
1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour an 8-inch cake pan.
2. In a large mixing bowl, beat together the sugar and butter until light and creamy.
3. Add the applesauce and mix well until fully incorporated.
4. In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, cinnamon, cloves, and salt.
5. Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined.
6. Fold in chopped walnuts and raisins if using.
7. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top.
8. Bake for 35–45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
9. Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
10. Optional: Dust with powdered sugar or glaze before serving.
